General Information
Emla® Cream is a topical anaesthetic used to numb the skin prior to superficial medical and cosmetic procedures.
It is recommended for use before minor surgical and cosmetic procedures, as well as procedures involving needle insertions and treatment of larger skin areas. Emla® Cream works by temporarily numbing the surface of the skin to help reduce discomfort during procedures.
Indications
Topical anaesthesia prior to:
• Needle insertions (e.g. blood sampling)
• Vaccinations
• Superficial skin procedures
• Genital skin procedures (e.g. circumcision or IUD insertion)
• Split skin grafting (skin transplantation)
• Cleaning of leg ulcers
• Minor superficial cosmetic procedures (e.g. hair removal, tattoo removal)
Directions
For most procedures, apply Emla® Cream at least one hour before the procedure.
-
Ensure the skin is clean and dry.
-
Apply a sufficient amount of cream to the area. Do not rub in.
-
Cover with an occlusive dressing. Use the enclosed dressing or an alternative such as plastic film secured with adhesive tape (do not use plastic film on the face).
-
Ensure a thick layer of cream remains under the dressing. Smooth the edges to prevent leakage.
-
Mark the time of application on the dressing.
-
Remove the dressing immediately before the procedure. Wipe off the cream and cleanse the area.
